On this episode of the Unhashed Podcast, Mario and Ruben discuss Russell O’Connor’s reframing of OPs APO+CTV, Bitmex Research’s address reuse statistics, Intel’s entry to ASIC manufacturing, no cap gains on small BTC transactions, and an attempted summary of HONK.

  1. TXHASH + CHECKSIGFROMSTACK instead of ANYPREVOUT+CTV by Russell O’Connor. “It is known that there is a significant amount of overlap in the applications that are enabled by the CTV and ANYPREVOUT proposals despite the fact that their primary applications (congestion control for CTV and eltoo lightning channels for ANYPREVOUT) are quite distinct…Given the overlap in functionality between CTV and ANYPREVOUT, I think it makes sense to decompose their operations into their constituent pieces and reassemble their behaviour programmatically. To this end, I'd like to instead propose OP_TXHASH and OP_CHECKSIGFROMSTACKVERIFY.”

  2. From Bitmex Research: Bitcoin Address Reuse Statistics. In this report we look at address re-use in Bitcoin. Address re-use is generally considered as a bad privacy practice and unfortunately it remains at an elevated level. Currently around 50% of transaction outputs are sent to previously used addresses. Although the situation has improved somewhat since 2013, when the 75% level was breached. In our report we break down address re-use, analysing how much of the re-use has occurred within the same transaction. Our analysis has identified that in the last few months, over 80% of all Bitcoin spend didn’t really move at all and was sent back to the address it came from. This metric has grown continuously since around 2016.

  3. Intel, one of the world's largest chip makers, is likely to unveil a specialized crypto-mining chip at the International Solid-State Circuits Conference (ISSCC) in February, according to the conference's agenda. One of Intel's ""highlighted chip releases"" at the conference is entitled ""Bonanza Mine: An Ultra-Low-Voltage Energy-Efficient Bitcoin Mining ASIC."" The session is scheduled for Feb. 23. This brings the company into direct competition with the likes of Bitmain and MicroBT in the market for bitcoin mining ASICs, or application-specific integrated circuits, for the first time. –https://www.coindesk.com/tech/2022/01/18/intel-to-unveil-ultra-low-voltage-bitcoin-mining-asic-in-february/

  4. From Bitcoin Magazine: BIPARTISAN BILL TO ELIMINATE TAXES FOR SMALL BITCOIN TRANSACTIONS. A bipartisan bill introduced Thursday would exempt bitcoin transactions from tax obligations if the associated capital gains are $200 or less, seeking to incentivize the digital currency’s usage as a medium of exchange in the U.S. economy. Currently, any gain obtained from the sale of cryptocurrency must be reported as a taxable income regardless of the size or purpose of the transaction.

  5. Canadian Truckers and bitcoin. Mario struggles to give a fuck.
